An eccentrically perturbed Tonks–Girardeau gas

چکیده
We investigate the static and dynamic properties of a Tonks–Girardeau gas in a harmonic trap with an eccentric δ-perturbation of variable strength. For this, we first find the analytic eigensolution of the single particle problem and then use this solution to calculate the spatial density and energy profiles of the many-particle gas as a function of the strength and position of the perturbation. We find that the crystal nature of the Tonks state is reflected in both the lowest occupation number and the momentum distribution of the gas. As a novel application of our model, we study the time evolution of the spatial density after the sudden removal of the perturbation. The dynamics exhibits collapses and revivals of the original density distribution, which occur in units of the trap frequency. This is reminiscent of the Talbot effect from classical optics. 4 Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed. Metastable criticality and the super Tonks-Girardeau gas.
We consider a 1D Bose gas with attractive interactions in a highly excited state containing no bound states. We show that in this so-called super Tonks-Girardeau gas, relaxation processes are suppressed, making the system metastable over long time scales. We compute dynamical correlation functions, revealing the structure of excitations, an enhancement of umklapp correlations and new branches d...

We determine some exact static and time-dependent properties of the fermionic Tonks-Girardeau (FTG) gas, a spin-aligned one-dimensional Fermi gas with infinitely strongly attractive zero-range odd-wave interactions. We show that its two-particle reduced density matrix exhibits superconductive off-diagonal long-range order, and on a ring an FTG gas with an even number of atoms has a highly degen...
متن کاملUltracold atoms in one-dimensional optical lattices approaching the Tonks-Girardeau regime.
Recent experiments on ultracold atomic alkali gases in a one-dimensional optical lattice have demonstrated the transition from a gas of soft-core bosons to a Tonks-Girardeau gas in the hard-core limit, where one-dimensional bosons behave like fermions in many respects. We have studied the underlying many-body physics through numerical simulations which accommodate both the soft-core and hard-co...
متن کاملSuper-Tonks-Girardeau gas of spin-1/2 interacting fermions.
Fermi gases confined in tight one-dimensional waveguides form two-particle bound states of atoms in the presence of a strongly attractive interaction. Based on the exact solution of the one-dimensional spin-1/2 interacting Fermi gas, we demonstrate that a stable excited state with no pairing between attractive fermionic atoms can be realized by a sudden switch of interaction from the strongly r...
متن کاملQuantum Mechanics of One-Dimensional Trapped Tonks Gases
Several experimental groups are currently working towards realizing quasione-dimensional (1D) atom de Broglie waveguides and loading them with ultracold atoms. The dynamics becomes truly 1D in a regime (Tonks gas) of low temperatures and densities, and large positive scattering lengths for which the transverse mode becomes frozen, in which case the many-body Schrödinger dynamics becomes exactly...
